CALGARY – In a strong worded press release written by the leaders of the SPLM-IO in Canada, and seen by the Upper Nile Times correspondence, stressed the mission’s statement on the following points, which criticized the move taken by some disgruntled individuals in the like of General Taban Deng Gai with desperate attempt to remove Dr. Machar from his position as the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan in the following order.
The “mission to Canada would like to make our position very clear that we stands behind and remains loyal to the Chairman and Commander in Chief SPLM-IO H.E. General Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon as the only leader of the SPLM-IO and only representative of SPLM-IO in the Transitional Government of National Unity during this transitional period” the letter read.
Taban, a corrupt official with vested interest in the higher position has fallen out with the Chairman on numerous occasions with intention to remove him. Multiple sources have voiced their suspicions of him disobeying Dr. Machar’s orders, which today has become true.
Therefore, the “mission to Canada denounced and disowned Former Chief Negotiator General Taban Deng Gai and Mr. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth” for that matter.
The letter read. The mission has strongly warned President Salva Kiir not to appoint any person to the position of Dr. Machar, saying it will violate the Compromised Peace Agreement signed on August 26, 2015 by the two signatories.
“The South Sudan President Salva Kiir has no right to appoint none SPLM-IO official in an attempt to replace the Chairman and Commander in Chief General Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon as stipulated in the Compromised Peace Agreement” read the letter.
The mission condemned in the strongest term possible the assassination attempt on the life of the Chairman by Salva Kiir Mayardit during the violent conflict that took place on Friday July 8, 2016, and on continued bombardment and the pursuing of Dr. Machar in his camped side outside the city. The chairman has withdrawn his force to the outskirt of Juba with intention to respect ceasefire he has called for.
The mission has welcomed the AU, UN, Troika, IGAD’s third party force deployment as a positive sign for it will create buffer zone and allow for a safe protection of the civilians being targeted by Salva Kiir Mayardit’s forces.
The “mission condemned the redeployment of Uganda People Defense Forces and militarization of Juba by Uganda Armed Forces known as UPDF. This is a clear violation of the Compromised Peace Agreement” read the letter.
The mission “calls for urgent establishment of the Hybrid Court of South Sudan to try the perpetrators of Juba genocide of December 2013 and other war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the war” continued the letter.
