Upper Nile Governor Donates 40,000 SSP to S. Sudanese Students’ Union in Uganda

JUBA – The Governor of Upper Nile State, Simon Kun Pouch has donated to South Sudanese Students’ Union in Uganda amount of 40,000 South Sudanese Pounds in order to facilitate their activities.
The president of the Union Mayar James Ariath said the support comes following request made by the Union to all the States Governors and the National Government to support them amidst their proposal to hold a general Students Conference.
Ariath revealed to the media at South Sudan Hotel where he expressed the Union’s gratitude to all the governors and well wish who have contributed to the well being of the Union.
The Union’s president received the money at the present of his Chief Advisior, Nyibango Bour Nyibango who came with him from Uganda to lobby for money to hold the general students’ conference scheduled for may this year.
“Nyibango and I received the money in cash from the governor of Upper Nile State and we are grateful to him for his generous contribution to the Union,” he said.
Other governors are reported to have contributed to the union including Eng. Toang Mayay of Lakes State and Rizik Hassan Zacharia of Western Bhar-el Ghazel State.
Meanwhile in the other hand, the minister at President’s Office Emmanuel Lowila assured Students Union leadership that, 30% of money pledged by president Salva Kiir to south Sudanese students in Uganda will be send to them within a week.
Last December,Kiir promised to support southern Students in Uganda when he visited the students in Uganda.
The number of Students who are to benefit from president’s offer is about 3480 students.
“We had been moving here for the last two months from Jan to February and the Students worried that may be the president did not honor the pledge. We came on the 5th and we met the executive director minister Emmanuel lowila.”
The president of the Union told the press that Kun advised the students in Uganda to continue with the spirit of togetherness and concentrate on their books. He further said that they reiterated their support to the government of South Sudan and the state governments.
The South Sudanese Students’ Union is a nongovernmental organization of South Sudanese students studying in Uganda.  The union was formed years back in 2007 to unite South Sudanese Students in Uganda.
