Interim period agreed for 3 years: Taban

BAHIR DAR – The head of the negotiation for the SPLM in Opposition, Mr deng Gai has stressed that delegates at the peace talks in Addis Ababa have agreed in principle for an interim government that will run for 3 years.

Deng in an interview with the Radio Tamazuj said that the issue of an interim period is agreed and only some outstanding issues remain to be addressed.

“We have agreed on the duration of an interim period of three years. We have almost agreed on the function of the transitional government of national unity.” – Taban said

Taban also disclosed that there are problems with the system of governance and the structure of leadership. He believed that only if these are addressed should a peace agreement be in place.
