KAMPALA – In a confidential leaked report received by the Upper Nile Times, the various opposition groups met on Oct 27, 2017, in Uganda under the auspices of Yoweri Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, to forge a workable strategies on bringing down Salva Kiir, President of the Republic of South Sudan.

The opposition groups, with exception of the SPLM/A – IO, have identified that they could not achieve their objective without unifying their ranks and files.  Therefore, they must come together as a one united and strong group to tackle Salva Kiir and his group in Juba.  In such meeting, it says “in this upcoming process, we are pushing for all the elements opposing Juba to have a united position under the Former Political Detainees to be chaired by Hon. Pagan Amum and Deputize by Hon. Deng Alor Kuol,” the current foreign affairs minister, in the government of Salva Kiir Mayardit.

In this kind of a deal, the group has indicated that Both Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar would be given safe exit out of South Sudan politics for 20 years a deal that is yet to materialize.  They allegedly indicated that this should be achieved through pushing for revitalization of Peace because the international community has considered their position.  They also indicated that they have engaged more officers in Salva Kiir’s circle to abundance Kiir regime and join the opposition group.  They have already convinced the NAS Chairman, Thomas Cirilo, and Dr. Lam Akol, the leader of NDP, to unite under one command.

The group has gone further, indicating, they have touched base with the Former Chief of Staff, General Paul Malong Awan, urging him to encourage and uses his leverage so that many of his group including Mathiang Anyor, join the opposition, a move that bore positive result with many of Malong Awan’s officers defecting and choosing their opposition group associating with them.  Since SPLM/A-IO is divided and some with Kiir while Dr. Machar estranged, the group stressed, it is high chances for them to work hard to dismantle Kiir and Taban Deng Gai.

This deal, if materialized, presumably, it would mean more bloodshed is yet to end.  This also shows that the work Paul Malong has done by rallying 5000 soldiers to storm Juba any time whether given safe exit or not is gaining momentum from within and outside Juba.  The deal included UN Protection Force beeping up its effort to protect civilians, should uncertain situation erupts in this short while.

Paul Malong Awan, has experienced hash treatment from his former allies and was kept under custody of his own home for more than four months, but was recently released from his house arrest.  It is not clear whether this release would translate into a meaningful and peaceful transition or a tricky deal, which would result in the government trying to lure him out to avoid any eventuality between his soldiers and the government force that surrounded the house.

South Sudan has been engulfed by the violent conflict that uprooted millions of people to neighboring countries and some hundreds of thousands stranded inside the country for four years.  The international community has plainly come out with stun warning to ensure a final push for peace gain assurance and that parties to the conflict succumb to it.  Stay tune!
