JUBA – SPLA’s General Chief of Staff, Paul Malong Awan has offered 15 bulls to the SPLMIO forces cantoned around Juba “as a gesture of peace and comradeship.”

Malong, announced the offer to the leaders of the advance team of the SPLMIO yesterday in what appeared to be an attempt to smooth relationship between him and the SPLMIO after controversial comments he made against the First Vice President Designate, Dr Riek Machar Teny.

Malong earlier last week in tour of Northern Bhar El Ghazal state was reported to have said that Dr ‘Machar will only act as a president when he (malong) is absent’. The comment caused huge uproar among the members of the SPLMIO and sympathisers of the Peace Agreement. The comment has since this week been retracted. The SPLA in Bilpham said Malong was misheard and that he didn’t mean to say all those words.

IO treat Malong’s offer “very cautiously”

Malong’s offer of 15 bulls met quiet and cautious responds from the supporters of the SPLMIO on social media.

Some people argued that Malong might try to contaminate the bulls to kill the SPLMIO forces so as to get a leverage in power around Juba. Others see it as good step in the right direction especially in building trust between the forces.

General Malong is set to address the SPLMIO forces today.
