Defection rocks Malong Awan family as son in law joins the SPLM-IO

NAIROBI – Angok Arthur Akuien Chol, the son in law of the SPLA Chief of Staff, Gen Paul Malong Awan has joined the SPLM in Opposition in a first defection to rock the Awan family.
Angok is a partner and married to Malong’s daughter Achol Awan.
In his defection in Nairobi yesterday, Angok blamed the tribalistic nature of the government under Gen Kiir for plunging the country into chaos. He said that his defection to the movement headed by the country’s former deputy president is a huge statement especially for his people in Northern Bhar El Ghazal whom he said are fed up with the mismanagement of the country. Angok urged the youth of NBEG and South Sudan at large to rise up and topple the “dictatorship in Juba to restart South Sudan again” under an able leadership headed by “reformists movement like SPLMIO.”

“Today I declare my utmost support and allegiance to the SPLM/A-IO under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny, and to all comrades aligned to the historic reformist movement…the ongoing crisis in the country is hurting everyone but only a few within the government hierarchy benefits through corruption deals. We must rise and reform this country fast.” – Angok said in a statement.

Angok Arthur Akuien Chol was a chairman of the Greater Bhar El Ghazal youths. His father, Arthur Akuien Chol was a former Finance Minister.
