JUBA – SPLMIO’s chief negotiator and the newly appointed Minister of Mining in the transitional Government of National Unity (TGNU), Lt Gen Taban Deng Gai has expressed huge dissatisfaction in his role as the Minister of Mining, according to his aides and assistants at the Ministry of Mining.

According to a personal aide to the Minister who gave his first name as john (so as to remain anonymous) , Gen Taban is still unhappy with his appointment and wished that the SPLMIO re-appoint him as Minister of Petroleum, in a swap deal that can see Minister Dak Dup Bichok going the other way.

“He is very unhappy. He’s not even interested in executing programs for the Mining Ministry because he sees no benefits in that. He sees himself leading the Petroleum Ministry. But IO cannot give him that because its too late”– An aide said.

According to Gen Taban’s assistances and personal aides, the Minister travelled to Nairobi and Addis Ababa recently to affirm support from SPLMIO supporters, some of whom refused to attend his events over suspicion that he might be planning to break away from the SPLMIO. An insertion his aids said it was not in his plans.

“No. he will not defect to anyone. He’s just angry at the way that he’s being treated by Machar and the movement. Lt Taban will not go anywhere. But he’s not happy”– the aides added.
