CALGARY – In a strong worded letter extended to the Upper Nile Times yesterday by the Chairman of the SPLM-IO Youth League Gatluak Bichiok strongly criticized the decision made by some disgruntled politicians under the influence of General Taban Deng Gai replacing the Chairman of the SPLM-IO Dr. Machar.
“We, the SPLM-IO Youth League Office in Canada, would like to state our strong conviction and reaffirm our support for Dr. Riek Machar Teny, as the only recognized current FVP of South Sudan and the Chairman and Commander in Chief of SPLM-IO. We also condemn in the strongest term, the conspiracy, and assassination attempt at J1, and an ongoing hostilities carried out against Dr. Riek Machar Teny by Cde. Taban Deng Gai & Salva Kiir with an approval of Jieng Council of Elders, a tribal council group whose aim and establishments is to Rule and Divide the country” the letter read.
It is not the first time Gen. Taban Deng has been criticized on multiple occasions. Before the going of advance Team to Juba for peace implementation, Gen. Taban has shown interest in running the negotiation processes as personal property. He was, on multiple occasions, seen falling out with the Chairman in a way that reflect power struggle. This behavior of Taban acts contrary to the peace process signed on August 26, 2015.
“As per August signed Peace Agreement (ARCISS), there is no provision on the Peace Agreement that authorizes President Kiir, to appoint the FVP without full consultation of SPLM/IO’s National Liberation Council and Political Bureau. SPLM In Opposition is a Movement, therefore its fate cannot be decided overnight at the Hotel Functions. We the South Sudanese millennials in diaspora, specifically in Canada, under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar, would like to appeal to all our Peace Partners: JMEC, IGAD, UN, Troika, USA, China and Africa Union to ensue and urgently with deploy a regional force as the Resolution passed in Kigali, Rwanda” continued the letter.
South Sudan once again slipped into violent conflict as a way to frustrate the implementation process of the peace agreement. In addition more than 4 million people displaced and hundreds of thousands IDPs trapped in UN Protection of Civilian Sites across South Sudan. Stay tune!!!
