The SPLA Army Chief, General Paul Malong is Responsible for Detaining Governor Elias Waya

JUBA – In a strongly worded letter, dated June 25, 2016, which was extended to the Upper Nile Times a day after the deadly clash that was believed to have claimed more than 4,000 people is now confirmed to have originated from Gen. Paul Malong Awan.

The putting behind bar of Governor Elias Waya was from Chief of General Staff, Paul Malong Awan in the following order “as per the Commander in chief (C-in-C) directives, I am hereby directing you to immediately arrest Lt. Gen. Elias Waya Nyipoc, the former/sacked Governor of Wau State, and place under close arrest.  All his body-guards be disarmed.”

It is allegedly not known as to why Chief of General Staff would be responsible for arresting a civilian leader like Lt. General Elias Waya.  If normal security directive was to be respected, the former Governor could have been arrested by the National Security responsible for protecting the National Affairs.

In addition, the directive seemed to have link with the C-in-C, 1st Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir who usually wear his military fatigues on simple matters a President should not be seen addressing.

Whereas General Paul Malong is doing all he could to make sure, both the president and him are responsible for managing State Affairs in the same degree.

No one knows for sure who is responsible for State Affairs as the duo seemed to have equal presidential power at the level of the presidency.  Rumors have been flying in the streets of Juba that King Paul his eyeing the Big Man’s Job, a term many think Malong wanted to ascend himself to power by all mean possible.  A year ago, Paul Malong has self-appointed himself as the Chairman of the SPLM Party in the Greater Barh el Ghazal.  The appointment seemed to have link with all the violent conflicts taking part in Greater Region of Barh el Ghazal because (he) Paul wanted to see none competitive leader other than him to clear the way for his coming to throne.

South Sudan has descended into chaos after serious of genocide that took place on December 15, 2013, in the main Capital City, Juba when the self-manifested coupe deta was concocted by the president and his JCE.  It is now believed that the country is falling through the crack as more violent conflicts, and emergence of many armed groups dominated the news.

More so than that is the case of the looming economic collapse that knows no colour.  The poor are almost nearing the point of no return, and this will be to take to the streets and claim the country back from the leaders (IG-leaders) whose goals are to corrupt, kills, and destroy the social fabric of the South Sudanese.  Stay tune!
