JOHANNESBURG – The former First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and the champion of the Compromised Peace Agreement signed on August 17, 2015, which was abrogated on July 8, 2016, by Salva Kiir’s administration has congratulated the African National Congress (ANC) on her 105 anniversary day.

“On behalf of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) and on my own behalf, I am writing to congratulate you and the ANC for 105 anniversary celebration of its birth” said Dr. Machar in a letter written to H. E. Jacob Zuma, the President of the Republic of South Africa.

Machar has since been an official guest of honor stationed to run his affairs in the Republic of South Africa.  He stipulated in his letter that “We are all celebrating with you as we view the ANC as the elder sister in the history of people’s national democratic liberation movements.”

Jacob Zuma, the President of the Republic of South Africa, has since been a staunch supporter of the South Sudanese people long before December 15, 2013, violent conflict that engulfed the entire country for over three years.  The long ties between the two leaders (Machar/Zuma) also made South Africa to contribute positively in the peace agreement by fostering a compromised peace deal to ensure the bloodshed was halted amicably.  But, unfortunately, Salva Kiir Mayardit and his entire leadership dishonored the compromised peace agreement by launching a military offensive against Dr. Machar’s camp on the eve of the independent day.

Machar concluded his message by saying “congratulations, we wish the ANC a long political life leading the democratic environment in South Africa,” a belief Dr. Machar has been known for to ensure South Sudanese within their entirety could exercise their God given rights (e.g., practicing their true democratic right).

This move made Machar to better settle in South Africa for this much period because both men (Machar and Zuma) have common democratic interest – mainly to democratize Africa Continent at large.  It is on this matter that the Chairman of the SPLM/A-IO uttered his utmost congratulatory message to the H. E Jacob Zuma, the President of the Republic of South Africa for.

The Republic of South Sudan has been ravaged by the violent conflict that has claimed more than 50,000 people and displaced more than 2.5 million people to neighboring states.  Hundreds of thousands have since taken refuge in UN concentration camps across the country.  The compromised peace agreement brokered under the auspice of IGAD member States, the Troika, the AU, and the UN was seen as a glimmer of hope throughout the globe.  It is better to resuscitate it than never for South Sudan to experience a sustainable peace and quickly avoid the growing devastation of the South Sudanese social fabric.  Stay tune!
