Troika denied having requested the removal of the Finance Minister and the bank governor

JUBA – Troika countries, namely the US, UK and Norway have categorically denied having authored a letter requesting the removal of the Finance Minister, Hon Deng Athorbei and Bank Governor Cornilo Koryom Mayik ; in exchange for funding support to the South Sudan government.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Troika will not fund the government projects unless it fires the Bank Governor and the Finance Minister as well as suspending the 28 states orders.

However, the US embassy in Juba has today denied all these reports, taming it as false:

“The Troika wish to clarify that the allegation of having sent a letter demanding changes to Government positions is false. The Troika and its partners remain committed to working with the Transitional Government of National Unity, and all its Ministers, to ensure a coherent approach to the economic challenges faced by South Sudan.” US embassy, Juba

South Sudan’s civil servants are still unpaid for more than 3 months. Lecturers at the Universities across the country are still on strike over unpaid salaries.

The economy of the country continues to run at a huge inflation rate and there has not been any answer for it from the government.
