JUBA – South Sudan’s embattling president, Salva Kiir’s expected address to the nation was called off Thursday for what the presidency called as “lack of incorporation of major issues in the speech.”
Ateny Wek Ateny, the presidential spokesman said that it was unnecessary to continue on with the speech when some major factors required in the speech are not tailored in. The factors according to the presidency include the expected visitation of the SPLM in Opposition and the IGAD summit anticipated to take place in Juba ‘very soon’
Kiir was expected to address the nation on Thursday. Among the key points of his nation’s address include the establishment of 28 states he decreed last month and the expected arrival of the SPLMIO advance team to Juba.
Its not yet clear if the president will eventually address the country anytime soon.
