PAGAK – South Sudan’s rebels conducted a major shake up to their rebel leadership in a move seen as rekindling the peace process going on in Ethiopia.
Dr Riek Machar, the rebel chief fighting the Juba regime issued a statement for the dismissal of Gen Gatdet and Gen Gatkuoth on Tuesday. No details of the reason of the dismissal as yet but analysts point to the fact that the two men don’t want any peace agreement that involve Salva Kiir in the interim leadership.
According to an official SPLMIO document sent to the Upper Nile Times by the leadership, Gen James Koang Chuol Ranley is appointed to replace Gatdet as Deputy chief of staff for operations. Gen Johnson Olony is to replace Gat Hoth Gatkuoth as deputy for logistics.
