AWEIL – South Sudan’s Northern Bhar El Ghazal caretaker governor is in threat of being booted out of power by Legislative Assembly MPs loyal to former governor Gen Malong Awan, the current army chief of staff.

According to an impeachment document tabled by the NBGs MPs, the caretaker governor is accused of fund embezzlement and publicising a market owned by Gen Awan. The MPs also cited his recent removal as a member of the SPLM in the State for his impeachment. Malong removed Kuel from SPLM membership, being the chairman of the party there.

In a sign of a huge controversy, MPs previously dismissed by governor Kuel were then reinstated in an order by Malong Awan.

The impeachment will be tabled to the state parliament for discussion.
