Kiir instruct State Governors to clear anti – National Dialogue elements and declare state of emergency of their own

JUBA – President Salva Kiir on Tuesday directed various governors around the country to declare their own state of emergency and clear anti-peace elements operating in crisis-hit states around the country.

In several meetings he called for 33 governors around the country on Tuesday to assess the situation and advancement of ARCISS since the signing of the peace agreement, President Kiir directly instructed the governors he met on Tuesday to ally with the “Forces of Taban Deng Gai and SPLA” to ensure that “Anti-dialogue elements dont cause any havoc in any state”. The president met with two state governors of Unity State on Tuesday afternoon, instructing the two to cooperate with the forces of Gen Taban. he also met with the governor of Central Upper Nile to convey a similar message that “country must be brought to normalcy”

“Look, we have signed a peace agreement with this group of people. They are with us and they say they have forces. We know they have soldiers in Unity State and somewhere in Upper Nile and Equatoria. I think this can help control the situation. I expect you to do your best to clear any anti-peace elements in the area. you and the forces Taban have, you can make sure that there is no negative forces operating in your states. You can also declare an state level emergency of your own without the central government’s approval, to ensure that these elements are defeated” – President Kiir said.

The president declared a state of emergency for 4 states this week after several clashes involving cattle keepers in Jonglei and Bhar el Ghazal.
