Rebels unanimously endorse Machar as the First Vice President of the transitional government

PAGAK – The leadership of the SPLM in Opposition have today unanimously endorsed Dr Riek Machar to be the First Vice President in the would be Transitional Government of National Unity (TGNU).
The rebels in a leadership meeting to ratify the peace agreement today in Pagak discloses that Machar asks the leadership and the First Vice Presidency in the next government to be discussed as an agenda of the conference too so that another conference is not called again while the leadership kicks off the peace implementation process. Being an obvious choice the discussion on Machar didn’t take long.
TABAN HAPPY WITH MACHAR’S ENDORSEMENT
Gen Taban Deng Gai, the chief negotiator of the SPLMIO says that Machar’s capabilities and his uniting image are huge asserts for South Sudanese “at this difficult time”
“There is no question about the leadership skills of Dr Riek. In fact, Dr Riek is a symbol of hope for South Sudanese and rightly deserves this position. He worked very hard to ensure after the civil war and independence from the North that we South Sudanese lives in peace. Our leadership made the right choice of selecting him as the First Vice president because of his democratic and leadership qualities” – Taban said.

CEASEFIRE GENERALS TO DEPART FOR ADDIS TOMORROW
After the conclusion of the first day of the rebels conference on Thursday, the leadership of the SPLMIO decided that generals on the recently postphoned workshop on ceasefire implementation work be despatched on Friday. Dr Machar, the chairman and commander in chief of the rebels forces previously wrote to the IGAD mediators to postphone the workshop over logistics matter.
