Machar promotes Taban and Gore to 1st Lt Generals


Pagak – South Sudan’s Opposition leader, Dr Riek Machar has promoted senior opposition leaders and cadres to the ranks of the 1st Lieutenant Generals.

General Taban Deng Gai, the chief negotiator of the SPLMIO and leader of the advance team in Juba, and General Alfred Ladu Gore, the deputy chairman of the SPLMIO were promoted to the ranks of 1st Lt Generals in a decree issued in the opposition’s main headquarter Pagak, South Sudan yesterday.

The decree, copy of which was extended to the Upper Nile Times praised the commitment and dedication of the two men throughout the conflict and the loyalty they portrayed to the movement in the 24-months conflict.

Many SPLMIO senior leaders termed the promotion of the two men as long overdue given the contribution they made to the movement.

Gen Taban who is currently in Juba and a former state governor of Unity was said to be happier with the promotion.

Gen Ladu, a long time general himself who was almost retired by President Salva Kiir before the conflict was well aware of his promotion according to SPLMIO officials.
